7. 1. LIFE AS A HOUSE project It all starts with the viewing of the movie. So, let's refresh our memories by watching its trailer! :)))
Now will you share your opinions on the movie with me? STUDENTS' OPINIONS :))
"Life as a House" is a 2001 American drama film produced and directed by Irwin Winklery. George Monroe, Sam Monroe, Robin Kimball, Alyssa Beck, Colleen Beck are the main characters of the action that allow the story to develop. George, an architect who dreamed of building your own home, discovers he has about four months to live. Thus, he decided to spend the summer with his son in order to fulfil his dream. It wasn't an easy job, but George got Sam, a troubled teenager, to find the true meaning of life. The forgotten values of this family have been reminded and George makes his dream come true. So, I liked watching the film because it is about a story of a family that has many problems: a teen with a difficult life, an alone man; weak family relations. In the end they finish building a new house with the help of all. He has won the love and respect of his son, all in one summer. After all, everyone went back to being happy. In addition, I would like to share with you a situation that draw my attention because of the way how George explained to his son what his disease is.George: I'm having a problem with cancer. Sam: I don't know what that means. What kind of a problem? George: The kind where there is no answer. Sam: I still don't know what that means.

"Life as a House" is a tremendous movie, not for the actors, neither for the place where is set in. The main reason why I loved it was beacuse of the emotions that it shows and that are shared with the audience. The values that are shown, characters' personality and even the little things such as dialogues are truly amazing and keep the audience interested in the action.
A movie that doesn't have an unpredictable plot touches people and make them think about their own life and its purpose. At least in my case, it was like that.
George surprise us by wanting to share something with his son; Sam makes us cry when he (finally) admits that he loves his father and, in the end, when he decides to be a better person and even Robin gives hope to all the romantic watchers when admits that still loves her ex-husband.
Rich personalities make rich films, and this is one of them. It deals with serious illnesses, teen problems and also relantionships inside family circle.
Now, focusing on Sam, the troublemaker, we got to see a brilliant representation of teenagers nowadays. Sometimes it was too extreme, but that is how things are in real life: extreme, unexpected and crazy. However, we could see a huge evolution in his behaviour towards his father, his mother and even life. A boy that started as a drug addict that craves for money ended up being an amazing person who really wants to make his father's wish come true.
A moving film that is, in every ways possible, an amazing help for our English class' theme of this term.

The movie "Life as a House" is an amazing movie with an excellent plot. George have a great character and the point that I like the most of George was that he had a terminal cancer and he never gave up. Before he dying, he had many things to do and he could do it such as the approximation between he and his son, Sam, the construction of his dream house and he found that his wife still loved him.
On the other hand, he have Sam, an rebel teen that took drugs and pills. In the movie, we can see Sam attempting suicide. Other teens problems in this movie are the isolation, the male prostitution made by Same to get money, the depression, and many others. However, with Alyssa and George´s help, he changed and he stopped using drugs and he finish the George´s dream house.
Finally, I have to saying that with this film we learn a lot about teens problems. And in my opinion, this movie is one of the best movies about teens and teach us that nothing is impossible. It´s just impossible if we not try.

A very touching movie, full of emotions , a movie that "glue" us to the screen. The main reason that made me like the movie was the fact that it shows our common problems, the ones that we have in our daily life. It was very easy to relate with it, to recognize our problems, problems like cancer, drugs and family problems that we will eventually have in our life. Therefore we see the movie to seek a way to learn how to deal with our problems. That make the film very educational and for us it can be a way of learning with the mistakes of the others.
The only negative aspect was the fact of not ending the viewing of the film. I was very excited with the movie and I ended very disappointed:. I would love to see the end

«Life as a house» it's a film full of emotions, sometimes funny and, in my opinion, portrayed by a great actor (Kevin Kline) who can roam between comedy and drama optimally. The film shows various problems related to adolescence, such as isolation, depression, dependencies, family issues and problems with money, those that cause other problems such as prostitution… Some of these problems are very common in the daily life of some young people, which makes the movie even more interesting /educational, because in it there are people who suffer from these problems and solve them, and so if for some reason we get ' hit ' by these problems we will know how to deal with them. Another aspect «more» this film shows us is that we have to face the problems always with the maximum effort and dedication, because if we don't try face our problems (diseases ...), they are going to dominate us.

I consider this movie very good and in my opinion the best I've seen this year in class. The film is about a young man who is going through a difficult time in his life, adolescence, where he will pass by several problems like: drugs, prostitution, alcohol, money, depression, family issues, ect ...
Sam represented quite well the teens of today, that are irreverent, autonomous, and sometimes not very polite ....
This movie made me think of all these issues, and the problems they can bring to us, because we are going through a crucial phase of our life, where we are growing as a human being and as a person.
The visualization of this film was quite adequate, because it is very important for teens to reflect on this and think about what we do want to do to not ruin our future.
GREAT MOVIE!

I had seen the movie before but I enjoy it. This film is from 2001 and past 13 years, we can see that the problems of the adolescence of Sam are the same today, this means that society has not changed and that the problems of the past remain the same. Personally, I consider this film important for teens like us understand that drugs and alcohol aren`t things that should be used for fun and the issues that they provoke in health. In conclusion, this film is an example to overcome our problems and achieve happiness.

"Life as a house" was the best movie we had seen in classe. The movie alerts us to teen´s problems and the right behaviours that a person should have. The screenplay focuses us on a man who is anxious to repair his relationship with his ex-wife and teenager son after he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Althoug, it allowed us to the risks of being a teenager, such as trying new experiences, like the consume of drugs, prostitution, nudity, ect... In the movie, the rebuilding of a house represents George rebuilding his own life. In conclusion, watching this type of movies make us assimilate the way of having a good and correct lifand achieve our happiness.

At the English classes, I had the opportunity to watch the film “Life as a House” for the second time and that was really good because I didn’t remember some parts of it. Watching this film was a great choice because by watching it we could discuss almost every problem that we, teenagers, face with many times. We are in a phase of our lives that is very important. Now, is the time to make many important decisions and that is the time when we must reject some danger attitudes. So, in my opinion, this was a good film for us to “open our eyes” and see the dangers of being a teenagers and the problems that it implies…

Life as a House is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. I really liked how this movie showed a complete turnaround in Sam´s behavior, who was a troubled and problematic kid, and the relationship with his father, George. By the end, we conclude that this film gives us a mixing of good and bad feelings, which is one of the strongest positive points of the movie.
Further, the story is a representation of a world a family—that has lost its way, so they are angry about abandonment, emptiness, loneliness, and hopelessness. But through absolute courage of George, he draws his family back together again, their lives are turned around for the better, and values and integrity are found more valuable than possessions.
Kevin Kline, who is one of my favourite actors, had a great performance as the terminally ill father trying to get his life together before he dies, so I consider that “Life has a house” is a wonderful film with great performances. To conclude, I think that this movie demonstrates the flexibility of the human mind, how people can change for the better gets us to feel about the characters, their relationships, and their circumstances

I never had seen "Life as a House" but I am glad to had the opportunity to see it.
This movie transmit us a mixed of feelings. With no doubts I think that this is the kind of film that we, teenagers, should see, not just for those who had the same experiences of Sam, but also to alert us to teens'problems.
This movie show us that we have to enjoy every moment and we shouldn't feed wars because life is too short. What I liked the most was the willpower of George who never gave up from his aims. This is, definitely, a film that everyone should see.

I think that the film "Life as a House" was a great choice for us to watch. It was an awesome way of introducing the topic of teens' problems. I liked the film because the story was interesting and I believe that the plot did a great job. It relates to different problems of teenage years and the film warns us about those. As a result, the film made me think about how the problems that teens can face and the precautions that we all should have. João Barros 10thF 11
I simply loved the movie "Life as a House". I think the actors were all amazing and the arguments too. This movie is very emotional, shows us problems that teens may face, like prostitution, use of drugs, identity issues, etc.. My favourite character was George because he really wanted to leave his mark in the world and he didn't gave up from his objectives: one of them, being loved by his son, also a problematic teen. Like Rita said, this is a movie that everyone should see, specially for the life lessons that transmit to us.
